The state-owned tertiary institutions face a critical shortage of hostel accommodation, leaving the majority of students vulnerable to insecurity. With only 1,800 on-campus bed spaces available for a student population exceeding 32,000, most students are forced to live off-campus, often in poorly secured environments. This exposes them to heightened risks of theft, assault, and other forms of crime, significantly impacting their academic performance and overall well-being. Addressing this challenge through expanded on-campus accommodation is essential to providing a safe, conducive environment for learning and fostering the holistic development of students.
The development includes 4,000 energy-efficient bedspaces with basic on-site supporting facilities, aligned with the university’s master plan. The infrastructure integrates sustainable designs to minimize CO2 emissions and enhance energy efficiency. It is to be located at Nasarawa State University, Keffi on a 5 hectares
The project will provide eco-conscious and socially responsible accommodation to students, improving academic outcomes and living standards.
The PPP Model is the Design, Build Operate and Transfer (DBOT). The model ensures:
• Private sector involvement to bridge the funding gap.
• Sustainable design and operation of facilities.
• Alignment with federal and state strategic objectives, including the NDP (2021-2025).
